The Rawheads were originally founded by drummer Lutz
and guitarplayer Ralph in the middle of the 1980´s. Lutz
had played with the kid-punk band Stromsperre but was more into
Rockabilly and Psycho, so he looked out for new musicians to have
his own band. Ralph, nicknamed Ralle played guitar in the same
basement where the punks had rehearsed before, the notorious HDM,
where, by the way Christiane F. made her first drug experiences,
too. Approaching the ´90´s the line up was completed
with Betoncombo frontman Heske on bass and, also former Stromsperre
bassplayer Kosche, now on vocals. Playing their own unique style,
a mixture of psychotic lyrics, driving punk beat and thrilling
Rock´n´Roll guitarwork they soon played smaller gigs
in the local youth clubs. Having good connections to local promoters,
they ended up opening for the Krewmen. However, time did not stand
still and in 1990 Heske wanted to leave the band as well as Kosche,
due to private reasons.
Luckily the guys met Rob, bassplayer with a school-band
called The Mean $trinx. He played the big upright one, too. He
also was a Rockabilly freak and agreed to join the group. After
a lot of exhausting rehearsals, when Rob had to cope with the
band´s speed, they recruited young Marco for the vocals,
too. Now, being a complete band again they increased their efforts
to get a piece of the cake. They played their first gig at the
HDM October ´91. It was self promoted and they found an
excited audience.
After having opened for Blood on the Saddle in summer
´92 and several legendary parties at their rehearsal room
it was time for vinyl. Early ´93 the first E.P. "Follow
that Demon" was recorded at Berlin´s Musiclab Studio.
It was released on Mental Disorder Records later that year. Rob
was asked to play with Mad Sin when their original bassplayer
Holly took a time-out for a while. He then recorded the album
"A Ticket Into Underworld" with them and went on tour
to France and Germany. However, he still was a Rawhead and didn´t
leave his own band. Having gained some more experience he returned
in the end of the year and the Rawheads kept on playing. Again
the band made a name as the rarest live players in the scene but
many will remember their open door rehearsals at HDM where no
party ended before dawn.
In autumn ´94 the first Berlin Wild Cat Weekend
was promoted by Björn&Udo. The Rawheads appeared together
with The Meteors, Demented are Go, The Polecats and many more.
In the end of the year all points were set to go to
the studio again. Within 18 days the band recorded their acclaimed
album "Inferno" at Octosound Berlin.
Spring 1995 they played the 3rd Munich Psychobilly
Festival, their biggest gig ever.
Shortly after that, the "Inferno" CD was
released on Mental Disorder Records and distributed on Rumble
Records again.
Then there was silence...
Marco left the band after severe trouble with Lutz
because of a chick.
It was never to be the same again.
After about a year of not playing together, Rob decided
to pick up Ralle & Lutz again. They reformed with Rob doing
the lead vocals now. Unfortunately they never played a public
show again.
However, because of Rob´s recording skills some
precious recordings of all time Rockabilly classics were made
and given to a selected audience.
In late 2002 the last breath of the Rawheads was drawn.
All the rest is history or rather call it mystery...
